The Chipophone
If you have been following the demoscene in the last few years, you might have already heard of Linus Åkesson (link). He goes by the handle lft, and he made some insane hacks with microcontrollers, like Craft (link), Phasor (link) and Turbulence (link). Every time he manages to surpass his previous work, and he recently came up with this : The Chipophone (link).
The Chipophone is a homemade 8-bit synthesizer, especially suited for live chiptune playing. It has been built inside an old electronic organ.
All the original tone-generating parts have been disconnected, and the keys, pedals, knobs and switches rerouted to a microcontroller which transforms them into MIDI signals. Those are then parsed by a second microcontroller, which acts as a synthesizer.
And not only this thing sound amazing, but Linus plays it to perfection. So go over here, watch these two videos, and wait for the goosebumps:
