19 Tips for Recruiting Great Developers

Of all the endless lists of recruitment tips I have read so far, this one is the most sensible of all: (link). It is mostly common sense, but it contains a few gems, and most companies around get it all wrong anyway.

I especially liked this remark about improving your recruitment process:

Review your interview notes one year after the hire. Were there any surprises?

And if I could add some advice of my own, it would be:

  1. Ask people from your technical team to review your job ads for errors.
  2. Ask candidates what readings had the most impact on their craft.
  3. Always keep an eye open for candidates, even if you are not recruiting right now.
