19 Tips for Recruiting Great Developers
Of all the endless lists of recruitment tips I have read so far, this one is the most sensible of all: (link). It is mostly common sense, but it contains a few gems, and most companies around get it all wrong anyway.
I especially liked this remark about improving your recruitment process:
Review your interview notes one year after the hire. Were there any surprises?
And if I could add some advice of my own, it would be:
- Ask people from your technical team to review your job ads for errors.
- Ask candidates what readings had the most impact on their craft.
- Always keep an eye open for candidates, even if you are not recruiting right now.
